Lester Horton was an American dancer, choreographer and teacher born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was one of the greatest contributors to modern dance techniques and he still lives through dancers who try to learn from his craft and unique techniques. His dancing moves were greatly inspired by the native dance of American Indians. He studied with Adolph Bolm, the multi talented Ballet actor in Chicago; however was a strong fan of Michio Ito, the Japanese actor dancer. In 1928 Lester Horton transferred himself to California by choreographing for “The song of Hiawatha”, where he nurtured a majority of his career. Horton started performing in times when modern dance was gaining popularity among the crowds.
